I just attended a 2 day course entitled Cervical Revolution by Postural Restoration Institute(PRI) March 3-4, 2017 in Worcester, MA.  

PRI (Postural Restoration Institute) has a posture based approach to management of athletes which considers the influence of the skeleton, muscles and dental occlusion on posture.  PRI is practiced by Physical Therapists, PT Assisants and Athletic Trainers. This approach to physical therapy management is called postural restoration. 

They believe there is a "dental malocclusion component" that affects joints, muscles and skeletal function which results in an improperly aligned postural chain that can affect posture, especially forward head posture, breathing dynamics and full body movement.

They reccomend a MOOO (Mandibular Occipital Occlusal Orthotic) Splint Appliance for their athletes who fall into this category.

As a result of this course, I put on my website specifically for the attendees at this meeting how and what I do as a dentist and what they do as physical therapists that may be congruent. You can access it below to read my thoughts.

Being 1 year out from the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, if you have any athletes training or living in New England, my office is in an excellent location for easy access being in Central Massachusetts. If an athlete is in need of or just may want to test out a mouthguard or mouthpiece for their training and/or competition, please call my office to give me a heads up.

I'd be glad to be of assistance to the U18, U 22 Ice Hockey Team USA athletes from New England especially if they wear or want to wear a custom-fit mouthguard which may improve their on-ice performance. Even though they are not Olympic level players, I'd be glad to offer my services free of charge to any of those U18 or U22 Team USA players free of charge.
