High School Basketball Varsity Athletes:
From Two TEAMs in Different Divisions
Ranked in WT&G After 4 Weeks Within the Top 3 Teams
THIS HYBRID MOUTHGUARD-DEVICE PROJECT IS TO SEE IF BY CHANGING THE JAW RELATION OF THE ATHLETE WHETHER WE CAN GIVE THE ATHLETE A COMPETITIVE EDGE ELSEWHERE IN THE BODY AS IT RELATES TO SKELETAL PHYSIOLOGY, MUSCLE PHYSIOLOGY, FHP, AND CHANGES IN AIRWAY SPACE HE DID NOT HAVE BEFORE PLAYING WITH NO MOUTHDEVICE.
There are no financial costs to participate.
This information gathering is for a furture presentation which currently has no data.
You must at least play at a varsity level and have full eruption of your second molars to participate with your parents permission. Our best results do not occur til about 16 1/2 years of age.
The primary function of mouthguards is to protect your teeth and prevent oro-facial injuries.
We are looking to see if after you have trained and prepared yourself for the upcoming sports season whether one of our mouth devices might improve your performance
by 1-3-5% besides making you safer.
NOTE:
We are cognizant that published research validates that mouth devices do not enhance athletic performance or strength but don't impede performance either.

With respect to this project: Basketball
Basketball - 1st. We want to see if we can just get you to wear a mouthguard in basketball at the high school varsity level especially where you have the choice not to! We are cognizant that it is rare to see a high school basketball player wear a mouthguard.
- 2nd "OTHER GOALS" include:
1. Comparing Strength, Flexibility, Balance
and "in specific to this project" with the mouthguard-device as the only new variable
a. Breathing/Airway Space Control to see if athlete has more Stamina and Endurance (Not as Tired with the Mouthguard) in the last 10 minutes of the game when the athlete is most tired and when most games are won or lost
b. Improved Boxing Out - Holdng Your Position Under the Basket
c. Increased Vertical Leaping Ability of signifignace beyond the players current leaping ability after going through his basketball strength and conditioning programs related to jumping higher using our mouth device (mouthguard) as the only new variable.
Goals: "With Mouthguard As Only Variable"
You coaches have got you trained and ready and are now in your best shape for game-time execution to succeed.
Still with that said - Can it be improved upon?
1. Can we Visually Alter the Athlete's FHP and Postural
Chain for Better Vertebral Alignment and
Muscle Recruitment
2. Can we Increase Vertical Leap 1-2-3-4 inches?
3. Does Athlete have Less Fatigue during last 10 minutes
of the Game?
4. Does Athlete Want To Wear a Mouthguard in a High
School Sport Not Requiring One?
5. Does Mouthguard Dislodge Upon Impact?
6. Is Mouthguard results Placebo or Real?
7. Does athlete has any Positive or Negative comments
about wearing the Mouthguard?
8. Do you feel your performance improved by 1-2-3-4-5%
or hindered your performance?
9. Make the District; Win Central Mass Title
